Moving Time...again

Monday, October 13, 2008 4:17:04 PM

Since the "flood" alot has happened. Probably the most busy three weeks of our lives so far... seriously. We moved again, to what I believe is a better apartment. This makes two moves in 6 months. If it wasn't for the help of my family and co-workers, I don't think I could have moved with my schedule. Thanks everybody!

Following the "day" of the move, we hosted a 3 on 3 b-ball tournament here in Hendersonville. Incredible turn out for a 1st year. I believe we hit 2000 people over the span of the day. Learned alot about media needs for an outside event, especially the limits of a wireless system (it's such a bittersweet relationship). The morning was interesting cause our trailer was delayed, which kept us from setting up on time. However, a nervous horse from the police department gave an early present during our wait. "Frau Blucher"! <--(Mel Brooks Fans know)

Besides all the excitement of the event, unpacking into a new place has been interesting. I've actually been really excited about the transistion. Hannah's been doing an awesome job of arranging thing and sorting through the boxes. Even though it's been a process, she let me set up my gear in the back of the dining room =) Possible grounds for giving guitar lessons!

Cosby at TPAC

Saturday, September 27, 2008 11:11:27 PM

COSBY was awesome! Tonight we went to see "the" Bill Cosby at TPAC in downtown Nashville. Hannah's folks and Natalie  were also there to enjoy the afternoon. His routine was very fresh. Nothing was recycled that I know of except the "dentist" bit at the very end. I've seen that off the "Himself" tour many times, it still made me laugh to see it tonight.

We sat in the tier and the place looked sold out. Cosby even took the time to thank all of us for paying and coming out to see him even during our country's time of recession. The economy isn't doing so hot, however people will still put there money where it's important to them. I think it's money well spent to see one of the best entertainers of our time. Americans appreciate his gift and integrity as an entertainer. Great time and hope to see him again next time around.

Bathroom Gets Flooded

Wednesday, September 24, 2008 8:28:54 PM

(cell phone rings... it's my wife..)

Me: hey babe.
Wife: Chris...they're here and water is gushing out from under the sink
Me: what?
Wife: there's water pouring out from under the sink
Me: what do you mean...
Wife: they came to work on the sink...and now there's water coming out and it's not stopping!
Me: you've got to be kidding me... they can't shut it off?
Wife: it's filling up the floor of the bathroom...
Me: is it in the hallway?..
Wife: i can't believe this...i don't know
Me: Hannah is it reaching the hallway...do i need to come home...
Wife: it's gushing out and there's two of them trying to stop it...
Me: i'm coming home...
Wife: ok...
Me: i'm on my way!

What in the world is going on. I put in a maitenance request at the apartment cause the tub hasn't been draining our showers worth squat. We also found some water underneath the sink over the weekend. Now...there's water pouring into our apartment because we needed this "minor" leak fixed. Ironic isn't it...the irony is at our expense of a flooded apartment.

"Oh Man...I get home...running up the stairs...walking into the apartment...Naomi's saying 'daddy, there's someone in there'...walking into the back hallway I hear the rippling water of a maintenance man laying in a pool of water. He's got his bare hand up against the broken pipe under the sink to hold back the water that's gushing into the place.

He's drinched from head to toe, and covered with spider webs from previous attemts to find the "cut-off" under the unit. His helper has gone to re-trace his steps under the crawlspace and to find another fixture to replace the broken plumbing. I asked him if there's anything I can do. I asked him if they fixed the tub yet. He said it's fixed. Then I asked them if there's any way to divert the water into the tub..."a hose!" He told me to grab the one at the front office.

I jumped in the car and raced to the office, grabbed the hose and raced back to the apartment. HOSE vs Busted Pipe = "Good in thoery, bad in practice." In a panic, I ran back outside and start pulling the plastic extenders off the gutters of the building. I figured I could put two of them together, tape it up and channel the water to the tub that way. I gave the "second man" a lift to the front office since he was just walking. "RUN, or GET IN THE CAR...NO Walking" My apartment is flooding.

I get back to the unit and start rigging the gutters I pulled off. i didn't have a knife, I just had to stab the end with a screw driver till it allowed me to joing the two. TAPED it with Duct Tape and ran it back up to the pool in my bathroom. GUTTERS-n-DUCT TAPE vs Busted Pipe = "Good in theory, but failed again"

This whole thing went on over the span of about an hour. AN HOUR! Ohhh MAN. The city had to come out and turn off the water for them. That phone call didn't even happen till after all of the above occured. The Manager of the Complex informed me how my apartment is the only one that couldn't be shut off from the apartment grounds cutoff. Wow...glad I could help with that discovery.

Needless to say, that experience will never be forgotten. After having the whole back end of our apartment disorganized due to the water, we went out for the evening. I showered at my in-laws and then we all went out to Red Robins. Naomi was so tired from the eventful afternoon, she slept from the time we left the apartment until we got to the restaurant. She enjoyed herself !

In Ears Gone Bad

In Ears gone bad at an evening worship service... reminds me of the time my mom gave me bubble gum for earplugs at the pool. Yes, that really happened. This guy was lucky to have a medical staff standing by!

First Week at New Job

Wednesday, September 03, 2008 4:05:37 PM

First week at the new gig. Media Associate. So far I'm really enjoying it here. It makes a big difference when you have a job that allows you to use your talents. Reminds me of something a friend once told me...

When it comes to jobs, you need to like 2 out of 3 things to Stay :
The People You Work With, The Work You're Doing, & The Pay.

I think this is a pretty good standard. If anything, it helps me evaluate where I am and where I know I want to be. I'm working with Good People, in the Ministry, and I get to use my talents. It's a good change. I look forward to what's ahead in this position and new relationships.
